Or Yo Gramma Gramma as my 2yo says. Since I know some of you have seen this...let's chat.
This is a new show on Nick Jr. I let my kids watch it at first because I was interested in what it was...always looking for new, good kids' shows. I have no idea what this show is about. The stated purpose of the show is to get your kids up off the floor and moving with dancing and singing. Some dj guys comes out and puts out some strange toys out then they come to life. Although the plot of each show is pretty non-existent, they do try to present a theme each show (e.g. eating, fun, summer). There is music in the show. I think it is the same music each time with different, bland lyrics. And beware, those songs get into your head and haunt you all day (and night!). There's a Party in my Tummy is especially cursing.
They even have guest stars...like some interesting indie bands and actors (Elijah Wood...why?). Wood taught everyone the 'puppet master' dance (which kind of creeped me out)...but the dance was easy to follow and my 4yo picked it up after awhile and did it.
Usually, I can find something redeeming about kids' shows (even Boohbah has its moments)...but the only thing that is good about this show is that the kids seem to really like it. They sing the songs all the time (which do help at clean up and dinner time). On the other hand, the kids are obsessed and want to watch it all the time (which you actually can on Nickjr.com).
I much prefer Backyardigans or Jack's Big Music Show...which I think achieve the same purpose. Of course, I would prefer we just all dance and sing together (which we do)...but my kids get to watch some tv.

I watched about 5 minutes of that one day and I wanted to hurl. We like the Backyardigains and Wonderpets. Granddaughter would watch Dora and Diego endlessly if I let her.
My friend's four-year-old is obsessed with that show, too. I've never seen it.
I thought it was HORRIBLE! And Elijah Wood really creeped me out. We won't be watching that show.
Backyardigans, Wonderpets, Tigger & Pooh at our house.
Oh, and someone was on an acid trip or had taken ecstacy when they came up with that show concept.
Here is an article my hubby found on it...http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/08/17/DDL2RJTGF.DTL
I don't agree with the review.
My 3-year old and 1-year old daughters are wild about this show. I'm surprised by the negative comments on this blog, sounds like parents using their own personal opinions as if they were the target audience. Not unlike Barney or Teletubbies, shows geared toward preschoolers are not meant for adult consumption. My yardstick is: 1) do the kids like it, 2) are there positive messages (this show is ALL positive simple messages, brush your teeth, share, don't be scared of the dark, etc. This is by far the best show for preschoolers we've seen. We're having a Yo Gabba Gabba birthday party for our 1-year old this weekend, she totally LOVES that show.
Where did you find bday stuff? My daughter's going to be 1 and I can't find anything...
I take offense to leeanthro claiming the makers of YGG taking ecstacy. I happen to know them well and they are very religious folk. LDS (Mormon/Christian), not LSD. :)
my daughter absolutely loves yo gabba gabba. why do parents have to knock these shows saying the makers were on drugs? these people are trying to help us (parents) by creating a show your child will love so that you can set them down to watch it while you do house work or whatever else. children like fantasy and sparatic images flashing across a tv screen. if my daughter likes it, she watches it...and the only shows she will watch are yo gabba gabba and the wiggles. thank god for yo gabba gabba!!!
I agree with Krissi way down there. My daughter is 20 months and LOVES Yo Gabba Gabba, and the Wiggles. She is not that interested in cartoon shows. She likes the fact that it is real (or dressed up) people. It is a wierd show, and at first I was wondering how much she could learn from it, but now the whole family enjoys it. Also, my husband and I are younger, 25 & 26, and we enjoy the people they bring on. Tony Hawk, Elijah Wood, Biz Mark E, they are all great actors and artists, I even think Jack Black is going to be on and my husband loves him. You shouldn't knock a learning show if your children love it and are gaining knowledge from it, they should have a little say in what they watch, as long as it is child friendly. GO Gabba Gabba, My name is Sara and I like to dance! :)
I love Yo Gabba Gabba and so does my one year old. One of the co-creators is the lead singer of the Aquabats. I think it's great that they've made a kids show that involves dancing and listening to music. My one year old dances to all the music he hears now! I also love the animation on that show, it's reminiscent of old school sesame street. It's real animation that someone put a lot of love into. There are a lot of cartoons on Treehouse and YTV these days that have horrible low budget animation. I think letting my son watch this show may spark a bit more creativity and originality in his life than he would get from some of the other cartoons that are on TV. Not to mention awesome indie rock bands like the Salteens, The Shins and The Ting Tings do bits for this show, that's music I can enjoy with my son!

I must admit when I first saw Yo Gabba Gabba I thought, "what the hell is this madness". I admit I am now a fan and my 17 month old has learned a great deal from the show. She sings, laughs and knows the names of all the characters. I particularly like the don't bite your friends song and nap time(I sing it to her when she is fussy and doesn't want to sleep). She now associates my singing the nap time song with actually taking a nap. In essence, Yo Gabba Gabba gets a thumbs up in my home.
Yo Gabba Gabba, or Yabba Yabba as my 20 month old calls it, is an excellent show. I'm not a selfish parent, my daughter LOVES Yabba Yabba, shes well advance for not even being two yet. she does alot, I feel Yo Gabba Gabba re enforces everything I work with her with about cleaning up her toys, going to the potty.... I do not see after seeing how much my daughter loves Yo Gabba Gabba how any parent could deny their child to be aloud to watch this program. Christen got up and danced, she sings laughs and imitates the tv... I mean c'mon, your children are each their own individual person, you need to help them establish their independence their whole life, part of that is letting them watch age appropriate shows, even if you yourself can't stand them. I don't believe in selfish parenting, even if it means a couple headaches for me, as long as Christens happy and its helping her learn, I don't know why anyone would bitch.
