I just don't get it.

I don't understand tanning...I mean like going to a tanning salon and willingly exposing your skin to damaging UV rays. I am one of those white or red people (although for the first time in awhile I do have tanlines). I simply don't get it. Someone clue me in.

And I had to laugh when I saw a TV piece about solar-powered tanning beds....

I love the commercials for one of the local salons where "doctors" claim that tanning is so healthy for you. Do they really think we're that stupid?

I use a tanning bed every couple of weeks to treat a form of eczema on my hands (clears it right up and keeps it at bay), but I admit I love the relaxing feel of the bed, like a warm bath, a getaway from the rest of the world.

I know people who tan in the winter to fight off seasonal depression.

I can actually understand using tanning for medicinal purposes but I doubt that is the majority of customers. But I don't know that.

My hub was talking to a dr that told him that people do need sunshine...it helps so much. Everyone should go out and get some un-sunblocked sunshine every day (only 15mins or so though).

You're supposed to get 20 minutes of sun exposure every day for your body to make enough vitamin D.

But tanning beds are so horrible. All that intense exposure without protection. I think a lot of customers are young ad think they won't get cancer. They are young and dumb. But anyone over 25 who uses a tanning bed (other than for medical reasons) is just plain stupid.

I slap on the SPF 60!

Gwenna, they make light boxes specifically for seasonal depression that don't have the negative effects of tanning beds.

All this reminds me...I need to make a dermatologist appointment!
